broadband explained

What is broadband2+?
broadband2+ is exclusive to the iinetwork, and takes full advantage of the latest ADSL2+ technology. broadband2+ delivers the next generation of broadband speeds taking your connection as fast as your line can go. More information on expected speeds is available in the speeds FAQ.

What is broadband1?
We've split up our broadband products into broadband2+ and broadband1. broadband1 is available off our network (bundled or unbundled) and gives you speeds of 256kbps, 512kbps, 1500kbps or 'up to 8000kbps' (depending on phone line quality, distance from the exchange etc.)

Is broadband2+ the same as broadband1?
No, broadband2+ is a product line that allows speeds up to the theoretical ADSL2+ maximum of 24,000kbps (24M). It is only available on our own iinetwork (the DSLAM network). If you are not on the iinetwork (places are limited and it hasn't reached all areas yet), then you can still get speeds up to 8000kbps on our broadband1 plans - that's up to 30 times faster than standard 256kbps broadband.

In summary, the plans offered can provide the following speeds:

ADSL Technology Available Plans Maximum Download Speed DSLAM Exchange Bundled with phone
ADSL1 broadband1 256kbps, 512kbps or 1500kbps or up to 8000kbps Telstra optional

ADSL2+ broadband2+ ADSL2+ speeds iiNet optional

Do all iiNet broadband plans have a backup dial-up account?
Yes. All iiNet's broadband products include a backup dial-up account. This can be used if your broadband service fails or if you need Internet access away from home through a dialup connection. For Naked DSL, please note that you will not be able to use your backup dial-up service on the same line as the Naked DSL was installed on (as there will be no dialtone on the line).

The national dial-up number for broadband customers is 0198 379 000. In some areas, this may not be charged as a local call. Please check with Telstra on 1800 11 30 11 or your with phone provider if any additional call charges apply. You'll need to change the dial-up number stored in your computer's Internet properties to this national dial-up number to use the back-up dialup account. You can also download the ' iiNet Transition Assistant ', this will step you through the setup.

Please note that you cannot use your broadband account AND the dial-up account at the same time due to login restrictions. If you intend using your dialup whilst away from your broadband connection it's a good idea to switch off your DSL modem prior to leaving or ask someone to do so whilst using the dialup connection. If you do forget to do this, you can still dial in but this will disconnect your broadband connection.
